Unfortunately, I didn't get a picture of it finished! It is made from 2 Moda layer cakes! Some great friends of mine purchased this quilt for a Christmas gift for their parents and the quilt now resides in Pennsylvania! I hope they enjoy it and it brings them much warmth and comfort!

Let me give a little credit to my unwilling models and quilt holders! My husband is on the right and his trapping buddy is on the left!
Oh! I almost forgot!!! I did something I said I would never do! I made a Rag Quilt! Didn't find it to be very challenging or creative and fussed the whole time I was making it, as one has to sew the wrong sides together rather than the right sides! I had great difficulty with that!!! Having said all this, I loved the finished product and I loved that it was so quick to put together! I will be making another one! Sorry for the Iphone pics...the truth is I am to lazy to get out the good camera!

If you might be wondering if I have forsaken quilting, ohhh no, never! I need an extra source of income and these bags turn around fairly quickly and I find it very difficult to put a value on my quilts (and part with them)! IF you know anyone interested in bags for Christmas gifts please pass my sight along to them. I am going to make it a point to find my good camera this weekend and hopefully you won't have to suffer with these Iphone pics they just don't do my bags justice!

This first bag is gorgeous! The price is $72.

This bag is 16 wide x 13 tall. It is a fun bag, and like most of my bags, is large enough for a tote, diaper bag or laptop bag. This bag is $65.

The next two bags are 13 X 13, have 3 generous pockets and can be trimmed in any color! These bags are $35.

I am so sorry! This past year was ( I hope) the craziest year of my life! Helen, thank you so much for the Christmas happy, I just love it!

I wanted to let you all know that I decided to retire from my position with Hospice. It was a difficult decision to make, but, I beleive it was the right one for me. I have always been a farm girl at heart, so....

Let me introduce you to some of my new friends...

These are my Pineywoods Cattle. Thank you all for the kind notes and prayers sent for our family and our daughter. Things are still not resolved, please continue to remember us.

Life has been busy! But I have gotten in some sewing time. Here are a few flimsies, one finish, a start and some eye candy I wanted to share.

Please pardon the poor quality of the pics; I had to take them inside tonight!

This is "One Bad Bear" made from Moda's French General Collection Lumiere de Noel . This is another one of those "I didn't have a plan when I started it" projects. I was going to make traditional bear claw blocks and whn I got the "paws" made I decided to put them on point with the dark border. It is called one bad bear because I didn't notice that one of the paws is not on point until I had the borders on the quilt....

This is a pic of the corners. This is a Christmas Layer Cake with double borders that I expect will be gorgeous when I get around to quilting it!
This little flimsy is mostly Amy Butler sashed with Kona Gray. And, this is the ugly brown quilt, finally quilted and residing on my bed. So much has happened this year.

On June 7th, my Father-in-law passed away after a long battle with Alzhiemer's. Working in Hospice, I see deaths every day, one would think I would be quite able to confort my family as they grieved. It is difficult under any circumstances, but, experiencing death personally only reminds me that when families we take care of at work lose a loved one, it is a once in a lifetime moment for them and I must remain vigilent to comfort them, never letting it become a daily occurance for me. My husband had a difficult time with his father's death- he is doing better day by day.

On top of having a death in the family, our 23 year old daughter decided that house rules didn't apply to her, that she would not be told what to do or when to come home and that she was moving out despite the fact that she was fired from her job of two years. She has broken my heart into. I hope she will be ok. I haven't heard from her in 5 days. Please pray for her. She has always had to work a little harder than her peers to get by and I am not certain she understands the ramifications of what she is doing. She has Mosaic Down Syndrome and has accomplished more than we ever dreamed she would. She graduated from High School and Trade school, drives herself all over the place and has always been a great young lady ( yet, a stubborn one.) I pray that she makes good choices and seeks the Lord in her dealings. I pray that she is successful in her endeavors. I miss her.

Experiencing all of these things while I have been recovering from surgery have been difficult. However, I have has some solice in several different things.

Firstly, I have the promise that Jesus loves me and He loves my daughter. I have my wonderful husband and son. I have a great job that keeps me grounded.

Secondly, I can lose myself in sewing. Each stitch I make, each garment I complete or block I sash together work out the pain and joy of life.

Thirdly, I am an avid gardener. While all of this has been going on, I have canned corn, peas tomatoes, squash and peppers. Put away hundreds of quarts of food for my family, all while tending my beautiful cottage garden full of every flower imaginable.

Nothing makes me feel more womanly or peaceful or successful than creating something from a peice of fabric or putting food away for my family.

I think I will end this long, pictureless, rambling post with a little poem I wrote a few years ago. I am sorry for airing my laundry here, but I felt if I wrote it down, I might somehow feel lighter.

So, Let me prepare a meal for you; it nourishes my spirit.
Let me sew you a quilt; it warms my heart.
Let me tend your garden; it feeds my soul.
Let me comfort you; it heals me.
Glenda Beasley, 2006Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14292144646440579642noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8811620956224552474.post-17889791971850533462010-05-24T22:35:00.006-05:002010-05-24T23:17:22.670-05:00I am Back!Well, sort of. My surgery went very well, of course, recovery is slower than I would like it to be. I have to wear a huge rigid neck brace all of the time, with the exception of when I am showering. It is ugly and miserable, especially in this South Mississippi summer. That said, I am so thankful to have this behind me and can't wait to get back in the swing of things.

Now, a little sewing talk. I decided to sell a few quilts at a local shop. I priced them well and left them at the shop. And, I grieved and grieved and grieved over them. So, I went back and got them! One is on my bed and the other is on the back of my sofa!

Follows is a few pictures of them when they were in the lovely little shop, Lilli Belles-

The first quilt is made of fabric from the Essence collection from Moda. The pattern is Easy Hexagons. I almost didn't finish this quilt. I just couldn't get into it! The pattern was easy enough, I just..., well, I don't know what my problem was.
I had all of the rows put together but hadn't put the borders on it. My dear friend, Elly, came over and MADE me finish it! I am glad she did, it is a lovely quilt.

The quilt hanging above is my second quilt. The pattern is Turning Twenty and the fabric is randomly selected fat quarters from my favorite quilt shop, Kelley's Pins and Needles. I will try to get pictures of both quilts in my home. These pictures don't do them justice.

I want to thank all of you for the prayers and well wishes and request that you continue to pray for me. I especially want too thank Elly, Dianne, Kelley, Lynnette, Jan and my co-workers for the visits, the food and gifts as well as the love I felt from each of you. You are all the best!
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14292144646440579642noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8811620956224552474.post-48315650974014717782010-05-06T13:27:00.002-05:002010-05-06T13:47:52.508-05:00Having Surgery in the MorningHello everyone! I wanted to let you all know that I am having surgery Friday morning. I am supposed to be there at 7:30, hopefully they can get started right away. Please pray for me!

I wanted to also let you all know why I have been away. Two years ago I started having terrible achy pain in my shoulders, forearms, and hands. I went to every doctor one can imagine and was finally diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I started taking the new medication, Savella, and became severely depressed( and it didn't help my pain). I finally stopped taking it, my pain persisted, but I refused to let it get the better of me.

A few months ago, I was working in my yard, and became aware that my shoulder was hurting terribly. I was certain I had torn a rotator cuff, so I visited my FP and he agreed. He thought it was to painful to try and do an MRI on, prescribed me some meds and told me to come back in a few weeks for an MRI. Well...I just couldn't find the time to get back into the doctor( even though my pain was ever-increasing) for about 6 weeks. He was still certain that it was a rotator cuff injury, but I asked him if he thought we should image my neck also, because it seemed to "crunch" when I moved it. He said it wouldn't hurt to look, but to prepare myself for rotator cuff repair.

When my results came back, my shoulder was fine, but, I learned that my neck was a mess! So!!! Tomorrow morning I will be having a 2 level anterior cervical fusion and discectomy. I will be in a collar for about three weeks and hopefully, finally, and thankfully pain free.

I have missed sharing my days with you all and have finished some quilts. I have taken pictures of them and hopefully can share them with you all while I am recuperating from the procedure.

Please pray for me, my surgeon and my family. I will let you all know how I am doing as soon as I can type.

Love,

GlendaAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14292144646440579642noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8811620956224552474.post-15048777358875945802010-04-05T08:26:00.002-05:002010-04-05T08:28:43.800-05:00Life Happened!I know I have been away for a long, long time. Things have been a bit crazy in my neck of the woods. Long, boring story, so I won't burden you with it! I hope to get back in the swing of things soon!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14292144646440579642noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8811620956224552474.post-38965320379437708222010-01-25T19:49:00.005-06:002010-01-25T20:10:48.616-06:00Dresden Dreaming...I love, love, love dresden quilts! I have always yearned to make one, but was just to dang scared. It looks difficult and very time consuming, both categories I do not have much patience with. Sometime ago, I ordered an easy dresden tool and promptly forgot about it. It finally arrived in the mail today and I thought I would give it a try! Oh me, oh me, oh my! My poor scrap box is in trouble!

I present to you my very first Dresden plate. Let's call her....uhmmm, Spring Sunrise! Or, Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me, or (oh, this is so fitting) Rhapsody in Redneck! Ha!

Isn't it FABULOUS!!! (Don't let the untrimmed threads allow you to think otherwise, they will be gone in a snapola! err, or a snipola!) I am on a roll tonight, aren't I???
And, just in case you didn't "get" the fabulousness of this plate, one more looky!

See ya! We had a fabulous time at the quilt shop where we found two future quilters sewing away on some gorgeous bags! After finishing our visit at Kelley's, we had lunch at Cracker Barrel. It was soooo good. I had hamburger steak and she got ( of all things) chicken livers and had enough left over to bring home a doggy plate. My son, Bailey was home working on the fence, so we ordered him a "to go" plate of hamburger steak, turnip greans and potato casserole. We put both his to go order and her left-overs in the same bag. When we got home with them, he grabbed the bag and tore into a plate of food. I noticed he had a yucky, funny look on his face and discovered that he had Mother-in-Laws chicken livers. When I told him what they were he turned white as a sheet and was unable to eat his order. Funny, funny, funny! I wouldn't touch a chicken liver with a ten foot pole and he insisted that they had no place " in his house"! Poor boy!

Future quilters:Below is my new little peasant top and pants, the pattern will be ready next week.

The next two pictures ( not so good pictures) are photos of another one of my new designs, The Elizabeth Play Suit.

Another photo of the peasant play suit. So, I designed a little pattern for a little girl, I am gonna call this pattern The Sherri Dress. It is a size 4 and is for sale in my Etsy shop, SewGlenda.

The fabric is a beautiful floral fabric with an aqua background and large flowers in gold, lavender, olive and chocolate. The lined bodice is trimmed in chocolate ric-rac and a gorgeous fabric flower in coordinating fabric. The inside waist seam is bound with tiny chocolate polka dot fabric reminiscient of dotted swiss and the hem is bound in same sweet dotted chocolate and finished by hand. The back of this dress has a loop button closure with a custom covered button and a lovely sash that ties in back. All seams are finished on the garment either by French Seams or binding. There are no raw seams on this garment.

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14292144646440579642noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8811620956224552474.post-20249851912419515002010-01-01T20:28:00.009-06:002010-01-02T09:29:54.710-06:00Happy New Year and First Finishes! This post has been edited to answer inquiries from friends.

This baby quilt is for Baby Paislee. God bless this precious baby with health, love and long life. The tumblers were so much fun to make!
This is one of my "creations". I wanted to learn some new techniques, so this is my practice run! I think this is the best binding I have ever done! Helen, yes, it is machine appliqued (I promise I didn't have a clue what I was doing)! This pattern was loosely inspired by a pillow I saw on Cluck Cluck Sew's sight.
I quilted this on my Janome 6500. And yes, Reenie, the quilting was quite intensive. I learned sooo much doing this little wall hanging. My biggest problem when doing machine quilting is that I get in a hurry and don't rest when I get tired, resulting in sloppy work.
Thanks for looking!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14292144646440579642noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8811620956224552474.post-20246740317771607242009-12-27T12:28:00.010-06:002009-12-28T07:25:32.222-06:00Quilts Blowing in the Wind

This is part of what I have completed in December 09.

Shown above are three completed quilts and 3 tops. It is made from the Turning Twenty pattern.

My 19 year old son, Bailey's, quilt is shown below. After following some one else suggestion and pinning the quilt sandwich together instead of using spray adhesive like I usually do, I was not happy. I will stick with the adhesive unless it is a really small quilt. This quilt is 90 x 90 and I only have my floor to sandwich on, it was, again, like wrestling an anaconda and I got less than desirable results. It is very lightly quilted using the stitch in the ditch technique.

This is my Mother-in-Law's quilt. I love the rich colors.

The top below is a Turning Twenty self challenge to combine wild, crazy colors.
The brown quilt below was created by combiningg a bunch of ugly fabric that turned into a gorgeous top. When I was in the quilt shop picking the fabric out, the owner Kelley said the fabric was " so not me." Son and Hubby came in last weekend from work and college; one had the flu and the other had walking pneumonia. I was always told that the caregiver won't get sick! Wrong! And I took great precautions not to get contaminated. One week off work and haven't been able to sew a lick! Thankfully, I am out of bed today and feel up to a little post.

I thought I would post some pictures of new fabric I "collected" last month.

A layer cake and jelly roll of Moda Nest! I found this at a Quilt Show in Ponchtoula, La. I was so lucky to find this at 60% off! Surely they didn't realize what they had!

I also found this fabulous collection of yellow and blue fat quarters at the Quilt Show from True Blue by Elenor Burns! I can't wait to cut into this!
But, alas, I need to complete a few other projects before I cut into these. Finishing the flannel quilt and curtains for the dining room and kitchen must be done first. Hopefully I will feel up to a bit of sewing tomorrow! Let's just not tell them at work!

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14292144646440579642noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8811620956224552474.post-38769597628157254402009-10-15T08:35:00.002-05:002009-10-15T08:40:09.152-05:00Have Fruit Daily!A variety of fabric fruit! One of our nurses just gave birth to two precious babies; Ella and Elijah. They are gorgeous and I wanted to make them a little gift.
We call these Woobie's at our house. They are small (3x3) quilts intended for babies to drag around until they are in tatters. My feelings would be very hurt if they were put up to keep. I hope she loves them! I would be most happy to tell you the names and designer's of the fabric, but I don't remember, as these are stash quilts... But, some of it is Katie Jump Rope!

This one is baby Ella's.

Back of baby Ella's quilt:

And, this is baby Elijah's. Not sure why, just never chose flannel. I really wanted to make my husband and my son a quilt for Christmas and just could't settle on a fabric that I felt would be suitable.

While discussing this issue with Kellie; we made our way over to the flannel section of her cute little shop and I decided the colors were certainly manly, but, I was afraid that the flannel might be difficult to work with. Boy, was I wrong! I now love, love flannel, too!

The blocks I have completed went together like a dream. I can't wait to get all the blocks so I can decide if I am going to sash it or not.

The blocks are big! The center square is 11 1/2 inches, making the star block 23 inches. It should go together pretty quickly. I suspect quilting this may be (as one of the ladies on Homesteading Today says) like wrestling an anaconda!

Hope I can get it done quickly! After seeing Reenie's finger injury from her roatary cutter, I may be doing my cutting with scissors!

Keep stitching everyone and have a blessed week!
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14292144646440579642noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8811620956224552474.post-32480768894340012382009-09-21T19:03:00.013-05:002009-09-23T11:01:02.288-05:00Freezer Died This Weekend...Terrible loss...In my craziness and hurriedness, I left the door to our freezer open( for two weeks). It was full of fresh veggies and fruit that I canned this summer. Over 100 quarts of corn, same amount of peas and butterbeans, deer meat and beef, all lost. A co-worker suggested contacting our homeowner's insurance, I didn't, because no amount of money could cover all the hard work that went into putting that food up and our deductible is indescribable...Oh well, no homegrown veggies this winter! Oh, and the freezer motor burned up! All my fault.

On a brighter note-This is that bright, sunny little quilt getting its final quilting stiches sewn on! I love it, love it, love it! I also love the lime green Arrow table it is sitting on. I mentioned to hubby having seen a wonderful sewing table. I explained to him it was not only a sewing cabinet, but a fine peice of furniture that may double as a buffet in the dining room. He insisted I get the table. But, I know how his brain works. He wants a motorcycle, you see "He is going to DIE if he doesn't get a big ole HARLEY DAVIDSON SOFTTAIL CUSTOM DELUXE." ( The Harley deal is a whole new post.) But I got the table, so I am slowly getting accustomed to the Harley thing...I am only having full out "certain-I-am-having-a heart-attack" spells once a day now! Sorry, I digressed again.)

Here a pictures of the front and back. I think I will call it Sunshine on My Shoulder's. (Don't know why I am calling it that other than I sang the song the whole time I was quilting it.)

Not that you can see the quilting on this little quilt, as I am a terrible photographer, it is really quite pretty. I used my walking foot and did wavy lines. I quess beauty really is in the eye of the beholder, because I am thinking it is just fabulous!!!

Now to decide which fabric needs to be Sunshine's binding!
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14292144646440579642noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8811620956224552474.post-25495655736369215922009-09-19T18:57:00.015-05:002009-09-23T10:57:51.434-05:00Saturday at the Beasley's Gobble, Gobble by Moda

This is another one of my "didn't have a plan" projects. I saw wonky blocks in a magazine and thought, "How hard could that be?" It wasn't hard, but their's sure was prettier!

The fabric is from the Gobble, Gobble by Moda collection and I LOVE it!
Don't cha think it kinda looks like spooky eyes looking at you? Hmm...
In retrospect, I am not even certain this is a wonky block, maybe it is a log cabin gone wrong??? At least the cactus is gorgeous!

Here is a close up of one of the blocks.
I had strips leftover from a little sample wall hanging from Gobble, Gobble that I did for Kellie's Pins and Needles. Seeing how I haven't figured out how to throw even the tiniest scraps away yet, I just started sewing them up! I think wewill call it a table runner!
Next time I try wonky blocks I will look at some of the fine tutorials on other blogs...like this one at Cluck Cluck Sew!

Boy, if I would have only looked at her fabulous instructions first!
Oh, my! When I was clicking on her site for a link, I saw her Double Hourglass Tutorial. All I can say is YA'LL GO LOOK! She is so talented and creative!

Supper!
On a different note, Hubby helped me make a fabulous salad for supper tonight. Lots of fresh veggies and some left over grilled steak from last night. It was delicious, homemade dressing and all! Our evening has been great, the kid's are out doing their own thing and for a change we have the house to ourselves! (If your thinking Yippee for me, don't...I am blogging and he is on the sofa asleep!)

We are in the process of putting a wood fence aroung our yard to keep future cows out. It started with the idea of just having barbed wire, but WE can't do anything the easy way. I told hubby that he just created work! I can't complain or fuss, because for all of his hard work our home and land are just beautiful!

I will put a photo up tomorrow of the new fence. You will see that I will have plenty more opportunities to practice my landscaping skills. A curving row of Knock Out roses would be stunning lining the fence.

My Newest Project
I am making this to hang in my dining room! I love the bright 30's fabric. The backing is peiced. I love peiced backings. One solid block of fabric on the back of a quilt is gorgeous on other folks quilts, but I like a little craziness on the back of mine!

Now, before any one thinks I don't know, I know that this quilt is quite wrinkled. I hauled it around folded in the trunk of my car for about a week. All you quilters know why I hauled it around. I HAD to show it off! In doing so, I showed my little work of art to my quilty friend, Ms Carolyn, who ever so gently and kindly informed me that one should never use pure white in a quilt! I thought that was the most hilarious thing I had ever heard. ..Turns out, there is some "rule" in the quilting commandments that states pure white that is solid without relief should not be used in a quilt top. Ha! Good thing I don't follow rules! (I'm just jesting Ms Carolyn, if you told me that I should layer a quilt with the batting on top of the quilt top, I would do it!)

The little quilt is now neatly pressed and sandwiched and currently on my machine being quilted. Ya'll are gonna faint when you see how I am quilting it!

But that will be another post! And the Turning Twenty turned out beautifully and is hanging in Kellie's shop for a couple of months. I will post a pic when I get a chance to take one.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14292144646440579642noreply@blogger.com2
