Quilts Blowing in the Wind

This is part of what I have completed in December 09.

Shown above are three completed quilts and 3 tops. I completed 2 more tops; one is hanging in Kelley's Pins and Needles and the other was a gift that I didn't get a photo of.
Please be patient with me as I learn to use my new Cannon Powershot super huge, smarter than me, camera.

Below is my 23 year old daughter, Sherri's quilt. It is made from the Turning Twenty pattern.

My 19 year old son, Bailey's, quilt is shown below. After following some one else suggestion and pinning the quilt sandwich together instead of using spray adhesive like I usually do, I was not happy. I will stick with the adhesive unless it is a really small quilt. This quilt is 90 x 90 and I only have my floor to sandwich on, it was, again, like wrestling an anaconda and I got less than desirable results. It is very lightly quilted using the stitch in the ditch technique.

This is my Mother-in-Law's quilt. Very simple vintage inspired layer cake.

The quilt top above is one of the prettiest ones I have ever made. I love the rich colors.

The top below is a Turning Twenty self challenge to combine wild, crazy colors.
The brown quilt below was created by combiningg a bunch of ugly fabric that turned into a gorgeous top. When I was in the quilt shop picking the fabric out, the owner Kelley said the fabric was " so not me." She, nor I, could beleive the results!

Kangaroos and Christmas

Merry Christmas to all my friends out there in Blog land! Sorry for not having a good recent post. My camera is on the blink( but I am pretty sure Santa has me one under the tree)! But, don't tell anyone.

As for quilting, I have got a ton of stuff done. I have completed four quilts and still have 4 tops to go.

I got a wonderful "Airmail" postmarked from Australia! Guess who it was from! Helen! Enclosed in the envelope was a gorgeous little quilt featuring a wonderful kangaroo fabric! I will treasure this little beauty Helen, and your work is impeccable! Soon as I get my camera, I will post a pic for you.

Don't give up on me, I have lots to show you amd lots to share.

Flu and Fabric

What a few weeks we have had at our house. Son and Hubby came in last weekend from work and college; one had the flu and the other had walking pneumonia. I was always told that the caregiver won't get sick! Wrong! And I took great precautions not to get contaminated. One week off work and haven't been able to sew a lick! Thankfully, I am out of bed today and feel up to a little post.

I thought I would post some pictures of new fabric I "collected" last month.

A layer cake and jelly roll of Moda Nest! I found this at a Quilt Show in Ponchtoula, La. I was so lucky to find this at 60% off! Surely they didn't realize what they had!

I also found this fabulous collection of yellow and blue fat quarters at the Quilt Show from True Blue by Elenor Burns! I can't wait to cut into this!

But, alas, I need to complete a few other projects before I cut into these. Finishing the flannel quilt and curtains for the dining room and kitchen must be done first. Hopefully I will feel up to a bit of sewing tomorrow! Let's just not tell them at work!

For Katie's Babies (Twins)!

As you all probably know by now, I am the Volunteer Coordinator for a local Hospice. One of our nurses just gave birth to two precious babies; Ella and Elijah. They are gorgeous and I wanted to make them a little gift.
We call these Woobie's at our house. They are small (3x3) quilts intended for babies to drag around until they are in tatters. My feelings would be very hurt if they were put up to keep. I hope she loves them! I would be most happy to tell you the names and designer's of the fabric, but I don't remember, as these are stash quilts... But, some of it is Katie Jump Rope!

A First Time For Everything

I have always steered clear of using flannel in my quilting projects. Not sure why, just never chose flannel. I really wanted to make my husband and my son a quilt for Christmas and just could't settle on a fabric that I felt would be suitable.

While discussing this issue with Kellie; we made our way over to the flannel section of her cute little shop and I decided the colors were certainly manly, but, I was afraid that the flannel might be difficult to work with. Boy, was I wrong! I now love, love flannel, too!

The blocks I have completed went together like a dream. I can't wait to get all the blocks so I can decide if I am going to sash it or not.

The blocks are big! The center square is 11 1/2 inches, making the star block 23 inches. It should go together pretty quickly. I suspect quilting this may be (as one of the ladies on Homesteading Today says) like wrestling an anaconda!

Hope I can get it done quickly! After seeing Reenie's finger injury from her roatary cutter, I may be doing my cutting with scissors!
